Hi & welcome.

I am a Creative Crafts Textiles Artist, knitter, crocheter, qualified teaching assistant & visual arts tutor.

My mum taught my sister & I how to sew, but I didn't like it much. I remember, she would crochet table doilies in fine, cotton thread, with a steel crochet hook, then stiffen them in a bucket of starch, then iron the frills even stiffer, with spray starch.

I started to get even more creative, when I moved to London from the Midlands in 1994, & I worked in retails where my knowledge of in my jobs.

I enjoy many other crafts, such as: Amigurumi crochet, card making, needle-point work, bead jewellery making, loom & off-loom beading, and am teaching myself to spin my own yarn on a drop spindle, needle felting, & thanks to Purple Claire Textiles, iv'e learnt freeform knitting & peg loom weaving.

Recently, i've been listed as a knitting & crochet tutor for the UK Hand Knitting Association. http://www.ukhandknitting.com/knitting_tutors.php or www.ukhandknitting.com

I can also be booked to teach knitting or crochet in your home or venue. Let me know, and i'll be happy to help.

On Sunday 4th March, Purple Claire Textiles, another artist & myself, will be taking part in an exhibition called 'Connecting Threads' at Studio 61, Lee Rd, Blackheath, from 12pm - 2pm.

Here is the progress on my group pegloom weaving which I take to my workshops for people to join in with.  Visitors to our home also add their mark.
I will be taking it to another workshop next week and then I’ll be taking it off the loom so that I can start another group weaving at a series of six workshops I’ll be running.

I was unable to attend the Weaving Circle, last Sunday, but @Purpleclaire, kindly took me through the weaving of our spiritual doll, which is part of the syllabus: The Doll: Insight into the Wisdom Within.

Using a weaving frame, I put 13 threads as the warp (frm top to bottom) with the middle thread being red. I chose a green yarn from Tiger, & a 100% blue wool, from my stash, as the weft threads (right to left). The weft threads were woven for about 12 inches, then taken off the frame.

The sides were sewn, then the bottom sown to form a base, so the doll can stand up. The base has a clear Moon stone at the bottom, which our tutor Suzanne gave us, then gravel on top of that.

The rest of the body was stuffed with what ever we fancied, so I sued sum lavender from my balcony, bay leaves, dried orange & crushed cinnamon sticks.

Next, was the head. I already had some wet and dry felted beads in my stash, so I felted more on top of that, to make it larger, but it was taking too long, so I wound some yarn around it, and secured in with stitches. Head done.

The arms were twisted yarns which were my weft threads, which was sewn to the doll, then head was finally sewn on.

The best bit was attaching the hair! I used Rowan Country yarn, which I twisted, then secured them onto the head with a felting needle. I also used some of the weft yarns to fill in the base of the head. I tied a ribbon around her neck, then named her - “Lady Locks”.

Love doing this. More pics to follow. Enjoy.
