SIPPIN’ ‘N’ STITCHIN’ WITH THE FUNKY FIBRES

The Funky Fibres Craft Group, met tonight in the Edmund Halley pub in Lee.

The first thing I saw, was Purple Claire’s spotty trolley & her new extreme pegloom, sticking out of it.
I was really excited to see it, and the wait was worth it, it was BIGGER THAN BIG!
It has a pine base & beech wood pegs, which has been handmade by the lovely Julian.

She just about got it back in her trolley, barely missing upsetting our drinks! She’s using some lovely organza fabrics & other textiles, to do a hanging.

I can’t wait to see her finished piece. Purple Claire, then got out her medium pegloom & started to weave with some beautiful sari yarns, which she got for Mother’s Day. Nice one!

Jo is working on her needlepoint. I’m glad she’s better - we missed you. Jo was having a quiet night, tonight, so decided to sit and chill, until she pricked her finger with a sewing needle!
I told her she didn’t need to do anything!

Another new member, Mo came tonight, and she said she’ll use Monday nights to work on her UFO’s (unfinished objects). A very good idea! Mo got out her needles, and started knitting a wire brooch. What?! Wire?! Just my thing!

Mo is making a brooch, by knitting a thin strip, scrunching it down to a smaller size, and adding beads to it. I love brooches. hope she brings it, next week.

Doris, who’s back for a second time, welcome back, is knitting a pair of boots in blue mohair, which she will felt in the washing machine. The only thing is, she’d lost her place on the pattern, & couldn’t remember what came next! Been there, done that!

Kaiya & I tried to work it out, but eventually, I said i’d take it home, put it in the fridge, & do it for her and bring it back next week. It’s a good thing I like Doris, as I like mohair, but it hates me, hence it’s going in the fridge to tame that fuzz!

Kaiya crocheted some hearts, using a brilliant red, fine, crochet thread, using a 1mm. steel, crochet hook! Mary & I were given a heart each. I’ll upload a pic, as it was too small & too dark in the pub to see it properly.

Kaiya is trying to work out WWKIPD (World Wide Knit In Public Day), at the Lee Gate Community Centre, which will happen in June. I’ll let you know more details, when I can.
In the mean time, look at WWKIPD website: http://www.wwkipday.com/recent.htm

Mary, is working on her ‘Bonnie’ shrug. It’s a pattern by Purl Alpaca, who use alpaca fibre for all of their beautiful patterns. She’s had the o.k. from the Purl Alpaca ladies, who were at Olympia, last week, so she’ll hopefully, have it finished soon.

I took my medium pegloom, and was using a wool scarf, which I got from a charity shop for £1.50, cut it into strips, then wove with it, with a multi-coloured, boucle type yarn.
Three strips of the scarf was plait, then inset into the weave. I’ll get some better pics.

So, until the next time.

keep crafting, keep creating.

Edmund Halley pub where Funky Fibres meet. We’ll be there next Monday!

Aug 8

London Riots

Today is a day that i’ll never forget!

I left work, looking forward to meeting up with the Funky Fibres for a night of crafting.

A young youth, came in demanding money from the pub’s till, and we had to run to safety.  The mob were intent on causing damage, with no due care and attention for any one of us.

I’m too ticked off to go into detail, so apart from Twitter, i’ll nt be using my tumblr page to post any pictures.

We chose to walk home & Purpleclaire got home first, then Kaiya walked home with me as traffic and buses were diverted.

The gentleman at the Edmund Halley pub and staff were brilliant, and I hope to see them again soon, to thank them personally for ensuring we were safe.

The vandals left the pub in a mess!

I JUST heard my eldest Nephew, in Birmingham, is back home, safe & well, as he was stuck.

This destruction has nothing to do with the shooting or protest.  This is yob rule, gone crazy!

Stay safe, all.

Hoping to bring happier news.

Peace & Love
