CRAFT SWISH 2

This afternoon, I took my very tired body to Lewisham, but I had to go, as it was a craft swish, hosted by my freind Hazel.

I took sum craft magazines, patterns, yarns, Brittany double pointed needles, plus food, as my contribution.

I was the first one there, and on her reception room floor, were 5, 50g balls hot pink, merino & cashmere wool, by Debbie Bliss! I wasn’t allowed to take yet, but I definately had my eyes on it!

As others turned up with their stash offerings, Hazel’s blanketed floor, was filling up with yarns, wools, fabrics, also some very lovely reels of ribbons, porcelain beads & bling, belt buckles!

After enjoying the amazing pumpkin & chilli soup, breads, fruit, hand made gluten free cake & of course, wine, we we allotted numbers. In turn, each person would choose 1 item from the stash, and after we all had our turn, (of course I took the Debbie Bliss!), it was a free for all!

Anything that was left over, will be taken by Hazel, to her childrens’ school, so nothing is wasted.

I had a great time, and it was good to see my knitting & crochet friends, who belong to the Pins ‘n’ Needles Knitting & Crochet Group. They meet every Wednesday from 8pm in the Fox & Firkin Pub in Lewisham. Feel free to join them. They also do a clothes swish, too.

Here are some pics of what I got.

Enjoy.

TONIGHT, WITH THE FUNKY FIBRES

It was the usual mixed media night tonight, in The Edmund Halley pub.

@purple_claire was doing her Freeform knitting on circular knitting needles.       Plus, we were trying to come up with display/mounting ideas for our forthcoming exhibition at Studio 61 in Lee Rd, Blackheath on the 4th March.

You can take part, and do your own pegloom weaving with purple_claire and Craft Club UK at the Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington, this week from Tues, Thurs and Fri from 11-4pm.

Jo was working on another exquisite needle point piece. I’m dying to see her larger needle point, which she’s doing for a cushion.  Her colour choices are amazing!

Kaiya, who’s back from being ill, was doing long tail cast on for a pair of ultra thick knitted boots.

I was practising my embroidery stitches on large count Aida fabric, I didn’t even take out my sock knitting!

However, the show piece was Mary’s weaving.  She started making a mat for her cat, ‘Ash’, a few weeks ago with purple & lilac, pure cotton yarns.  Mary had taken part in a 4 hour Pegloom weaving workshop, run by purple_claire, last Saturday at Yarnia in Bexley, Kent, and tonight, as you can see from the pictures above, Ash’s mat was finished!

Mary’s 2nd project, is going to be a bath mat.  This is going to be longer and wider than Ash’s mat, but i’m excited to see how she’s progressed, next week.

If you want to come to our group, feel free to come by.  We are there, every Monday from 7pm - 9pm, and it’s free!  The Edmund Halley Pub has free WiFi, and has a nice food and drinks menu. I can recommend the spicy noodles!

I’ll try to keep you updated of what the Funky Fibres are up to.

So, until the next time.  Keep crafting.  Keep creating.

My finished Freeform knitted ‘Sc-Art’

it’s between a scarf & a piece of hanging wall art.

I used 5mm needles, and with green Rowan Country wool yarn, & lilac,Wendy Supreme Luxury DK cotton yarn, I went mad with the increases, decreases, drop stitch techniques & wrap & turn techniques!

It’s nice & long, but would have been longer, if  hadn’t run out of the cotton yarn!

Here’s to no 3!  What do you think?

*PROJECT LINUS

Project Linus originated in America, December 1995 when Karen Loucks saw a newspaper article showing how much a comfort blanket had helped a child cancer victim and decided to organise blankets for her local children’s cancer unit and started spreading the word. Since that time over 3,000,000 blankets and quilts have been delivered worldwide. (www.projectlinus.org)

Project Linus started in the UK in March 2000 as a result of a quilter’s desire to help children in need. It has now spread to cover most of the UK. To date they have delivered over 116,000 quilts and blankets. They always try to get the blankets delivered to children who are local to the makers (http://www.projectlinusuk.org.uk/ ).

*eBay….we are there too!

Following our plans for world yarns and fabrics domination, we have now started to sell our goods on eBay, which is good news for those of you that cannot visit the shop.

Their Seller name is yarnia_uk, and you can shop in their dedicated store. We are adding items on there amost daily, and a good deal can now be had by all!

Yarnia do not have a mail order site, but they are happy to post items to customers.

Wow!  This blog is in 6 parts!  That’s my bigggest blog ever, plus i’ve still got more pictures on my phone!  However, it’s been worthwhile, as Yarnia is a great store, with a great range, thanks to Nicci & Trish.

Take some time to go there, & tell them I sent you.  Let me know how you get on.

So, until the nexdt time.  Keep crafting.  Keep creating.
